Following Nium’s acquisition of Cypher and the planned wind-down of its consumer platform, Tria says the moment underscores why consumers shouldn’t have to sacrifice ownership to access everyday financial services.
Tria, the self-custodial financial app that combines trading, payments, rewards and travel in a single platform, today announced it is opening its platform to users affected by the wind-down of Cypher’s consumer products following the company’s acquisition by global payments infrastructure provider Nium. Under the transition, the Cypher consumer app, card platform and broader consumer ecosystem will be retired over the coming weeks.
While Cypher has confirmed that customer funds remain safe and withdrawable throughout the transition period, the announcement has prompted many users to reconsider how they access everyday crypto payments. Tria enables users to trade, spend and earn rewards while maintaining self-custody of their digital assets. Rather than requiring funds to be held by a centralized platform, the app allows users to keep control of their crypto while accessing features traditionally associated with fintech products.
That includes the Tria Card, which allows users to spend directly from self-custodied assets while earning cashback on eligible purchases. Through Tria Travel, users can also book flights, hotels, cruises and experiences in-app while earning cashback on eligible bookings—including luxury and other high-value travel purchases—with no monthly cap on eligible travel rewards.
