BitMEX Reports Over 185% Liquidity Growth Following AWS Tokyo Migration

Following its data centre migration to AWS Tokyo, BitMEX has seen over 185% improvement in liquidity across 9 derivatives contracts as well as order placement and market data latency to increase active market-making participants on the platform.
BitMEX, one of the world’s safest crypto exchanges, today announced the results of its recent trading engine migration to AWS Tokyo, reporting improvements in liquidity across nine perpetual contracts and reduced order execution times. The exchange states that the migration has contributed to a more than 185% increase in liquidity for these instruments.
The migration was executed by the BitMEX engineering team on 23 August 2025, which was completed within ten minutes. The exchange was brought back online in under an hour—a major technical milestone for the platform that ensured a smooth, disruption-free transition for users.
One month following the migration, the platform enhancements are clear:
- Increased Liquidity on Key Contracts: BitMEX reports that liquidity within five basis points of the mid-price has grown by 185% for XBTUSDT and 401% for ETHUSDT. These changes are expected to result in narrower spreads and reduced slippage for traders.
- Liquidity Growth on Emerging Pairs: According to the exchange, newer contracts such as HYPE, BCH, and PEPE have seen liquidity increases exceeding 2,000%, expanding the number of instruments with deeper markets. While historically known for its Bitcoin perpetual swaps, BitMEX states it is now supporting a broader range of tokens through its derivatives offering.
- Latency Reductions: BitMEX also reports measurable reductions in order placement and orderbook latency. These changes are designed to enhance execution performance and support increased liquidity provision from market participants.
