Pocket Network completes Shannon network upgrade, becoming a Cosmos chain with usage-based economics
Tampa, United States, September 16th, 2025, Chainwire
Migration to play critical role in market dynamics with open data economy set to reach $390 billion this year.
Pocket Network, the permissionless protocol for open data, successfully completed its migration from Morse to Shannon, thereby becoming a Cosmos native chain, overhauling tokenomics for usage-based growth, and launching a major push for partnerships across Web3 ecosystems and geographical hotspots. The move is key to scaling Pocket’s decentralized infrastructure both economically and rapidly, but also demonstrates the evolution among crypto startups into fully demand-driven, profit-first businesses.
Pocket Network’s Changing Tokenomics
The consensus-breaking, non-backwards-compatible upgrade introduces a range of tokenomics changes, which aim to create a more sustainable economic model for $POKT holders, balancing incentives against network revenue. The upgrade also introduced Token Logic Modules, which implement a host of new features including permissionless gateway and modes, enhanced incentives for ecosystem growth and meaningful staking APR.
The Foundation has recently secured new exchange listings for its $POKT tokens and brought on Wintermute, one of the biggest market makers, to improve liquidity.
New Ecosystems, New Partnerships
Additionally, over the 90 days since the Shannon protocol upgrade was deployed, there has been significant growth in partnerships, data services, and ecosystem development.
With the recently completed Shannon upgrade, the DAO and Pocket Network Foundation treasuries, the wPOKT vault, and exchange accounts were all successfully migrated. New partners, including OverProtocol in Korea, XRPL, Cosmos, Akash, and dozens of other projects, can now use Pocket RPC.
With the Grove portal now fully operational, it now supports the XRPL EVM sidechain, which means developers can deploy Ethereum-compatible smart contracts using XRP as transaction fees on Grove Portal and public RPC endpoints. Cosmos chains are now supported by the partnership with Kleomedes, as well as the XRPL EVM sidechain. Pocket Network now has a new node runner in Korea.
About Pocket Network
Pocket Network is a decentralized blockchain data platform that provides access to blockchain data for Web3 decentralized applications (dApps). It acts as a relay network, connecting applications to full nodes (which store and process blockchain data.) Pocket uses a native cryptocurrency, POKT, to facilitate this process, creating a marketplace where node providers can earn rewards for servicing application requests.
